Melissa is a Psychologist with 12 years of clinical mental health experience in specialist areas of; Adolescents and Young People, Educational and Organisational Psychology, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse People, LGBTQIA+ People, and Alcohol and other Drugs. She has worked with individuals, couples and families to address areas of concern or development, and has extensive experience delivering group psychological education training and workshops. She aims to assist individuals from all walks of life, to not merely survive through challenging times on their journey, but thrive.
Melissa utilizes an integrative approach to therapy within a strengths-based, action-oriented, empowering framework. Her preferred therapeutic models include Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Behavioural Therapy (BT), Mindfulness-based CBT (M-CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Solutions-Focused Therapy (SFT). Applying these therapeutic modalities in a holistic manner, Melissa aims to assist people to gain wellbeing, healthy relationships and work-life balance. Melissa often uses animal-assisted and music-assisted therapeutic tools in-conjunction with aforementioned approaches.
Crucial to Melissa’s approach is the need for a strong therapeutic rapport, which is a focus of initial sessions, enabling her to tailor a therapeutic approach specific to each individual, dependant on their needs, goals and current circumstances.
Melissa aims to empower clients by equipping them with tools and knowledge that will help them move through life, relationships, careers and challenges with confidence, a strong sense of self-worth and awareness of when and where to reach out for further support.
Melissa has completed a Bachelor of Arts, Graduate Diploma of Psychology, Post-Graduate Diploma of Psychology and Master of Professional Psychology. She holds Associate Membership with the Australian Psychological Society (APS), membership with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), and the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Association (AHPRA). Additionally, Melissa holds qualifications in Crisis Counselling, Hypnotherapy, Life Coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Alcohol & Other Drugs and Community Services.
